OMC case: Sri Lakshmi gets bail

The former secretary of industries department and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official Y. Srilakshmi was issued bail on Friday in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC)-case by the special CBI court, at Hyderabad. The conditions of the bail for the officer were Rs 25,000/- surety of two people. The court also ordered the officer that she should be available for the CBI investigation as and when the need arises. She was also advised not to intimidate any witnesses in the court. Finally she was asked to surrender her passport.

Srilakshmi was secretary of industries department in late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's government when OMC was granted mining lease. The senior officer was arrested Dec 28 and after three-day CBI custody, she was sent to jail Thursday. Srilakshmi is accused No-3 in the illegal mining case of OMC and Gali Janardhan Reddy and is charged of not adding the word ‘captive mining‘ in the GO granting mining lease issued in 2007. The officer, who was family welfare commissioner at the time of the arrest, was suspended by the state government.

It may be noted on Wednesday, Srilakshmi bail application was opposed by the CBI and also her medical certificates that she was a cardiac patient were termed as fake. She was also charged of leaking official information to the OMC officials by the CBI.
