Security beefed up in AP capital

Hyderabad police have issued a red alert today ahead of the 19th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on Tuesday. The anniversary coincides with the 10th day of ‘Muharram’, knows as ‘Yaum-e-Ashoora’.

As a result, security has been beefed up in and around Hyderabad and especially in the old city of the city. Additional forces have been deployed at sensitive points as Muslim organizations have been observing black day tomorrow.

A senior police official said that hundreds of policemen will guard the main annual Moharram procession which will be conducted in the old city. “We have taken additional precautions in the wake of the recent communal attacks in the old city,” said a police official. Police last month arrested 6 activists of the Hindu Vahini for carrying out attacks on Muslims.

Hyderabad Police commissioner AK Khan told journalists that they have made some preventive arrests as a precautionary measure. Police also started checking vehicles at several key areas in the city.

Additional Director General of Police SA Huda has been looking after the security arrangements being made for maintaining law and order in the city. (JUBS)
