Mr Mahammad Majeed Hussain of the Majilis party and Mr Rajakumar of the congress party were unanimously elected as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation respectively today.

While Mr Majeed was elected as MIM corporator from Ahmadnagar, Mr Rajakumar was elected as the congress corporator from the Kavadiguda ward.

The council held a special meeting today at its office in the presence of the District Collector Mr Natarajan Guljar. After the election, Guljar handed over the election letters to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Earlier, the MIM corporators elected Mr Majeed as the party candidate for the Mayoral post at its office. Almost simultaneously, congress corporators elected Mr Rajakumar as the deputy Mayoral candidate at a separate meeting.

The election of new mayor was necessitated following the resignation of the Congress candidate Mrs B. Kartiika reddy as the Mayor after completion of her 2-year term as per the understanding between the Congress and the MIM. (JUBS)
