Prakasam district woke up to a rude shock, in the very early hours of the day. Two Jeeps collided with each other, travelling at high speed. The accident resulted in three killed on the spot, while nearly 21 passengers in both the vehicles were under medical care. The entire travelers in both the jeeps were hurt in the accident and of them 4 were very critical. The jeeps in which they were travelling rammed into a lorry which had applied sudden brakes at the Jagarlamudivaripalem-Reningavaram junction in the district.
The irony is all of them belonged to one group and after visiting Bhadrachalam were travelling towards Tirupati. The group of people hailed from Santakolluru in Kurnool district. They were on a Siva deeksha and proceeding on a pilgrimage with families. The mishap occurred around 2 am. The deceased were identified as lady (40), Raghavendra (37) and Veeramma (45). They were travelling by vehicle no AP 24 EU 0374 & AP21 Y 2693. The highway patrol and 108 emergency ambulance services flung into action and transported the victims to hospitals. The whole place turned out into a ghastly scene. The lorry which was the main cause of the accident has sped away. Traffic on the NH-5 highway was disrupted for a while, while the authorities were trying to clear the debris.
