Guv praised on decision on appointment of Commissioners

Former Union Home Secretary Mr K. Padmanabhaiah today welcomed the decision of the Governor ESL Narasimhan in rejecting the names of four candidates out of the eight recommended by the Government for their appointment as information commissioners as per the RTI (Right to Information) Act 2005.

Addressing a media conference in Hyderabad this evening, he accused the government of throwing to the winds the rules and regulations of the RTI Act in the appointment of Commissioners.

“People connected with politics should not be appointed to the posts under the RTI Act but the Government has no regard for such rules. The Governor has taken the right decision under the circumstances,” he said.

Governor rejects four candidates

It may be recalled that the Governor Narasimhan has rejected the names of Mrs. Vijayanirmala, Intiaz, Venkateswarlu and Tantia for their appointment as Commissioners under the RTI Act saying they are connected with politics.

The Governor has accepted the names of Prabhakar reddy, Madhukar Raj, M.Ratan and Vijayababu for their appointment as Commissioners.

The governor returned the file to the government advising it to run the show with the four commissioners only.

CM to send file again

Reports said CM Kirankumar reddy has decided to seek affidavits from the rejected candidates to the effect that they would have no connection with politics and also would not join any political party in the future.  (JUBS)
