5 AP Maoists arrested in Kolkata

Five Maoists of Andhra Pradesh were arrested from different parts of Kolkata city in the last 24 hours, according to Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police.

STF officials said today they have nabbed the Maoists with close cooperation of the Greyhounds, the anti-Maoist wing of the AP state. “The operation started Wednesday morning and ended today,” they said.

In fact, the men of Greyhounds and STF forcibly ejected a person from a car in the busy thoroughfares of the College Street Wednesday morning but bystanders had mistaken it to be a daring kidnap.

A section of the media in Kolkata also described it as a kidnapping incident based on the explanations given by the onlookers and bystanders. “That was not a kidnap. He was the first to be arrested by the combined team of Kolkata police and AP Greyhounds,” clarified a top official.

“We have also recovered some blueprints from them for making arms,” he said, adding, the arrested Maoists would be produced in the court. (J)
