At the the Desi Cow festival, cow urine has been sold at Rs 140 per litre as it includes medicinal properties.Adding to this was Punganur, a species of dwarf cattle from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh is said to be the smallest, was a added attraction on Thursday March 29.
Around 6,000 people have been visiting the venue every day. Thursday being the auspicious day for Go Pradakshina, the spiritually-inclined were seen doing the ritual.
Dr K. Jayakrishna, an Ayurvedic doctor said, Cow urine, according to Ayurvedic treatises, is considered to be a detoxifier and blood purifier, activates the kidney and urinary tract, helps in production of red blood cells and haemoglobin, increases immunity and appetite, and cures hereditary rheumatism.
“But it should always be taken in the right doses, on the advice of a qualified doctor and depending on the ailment one has,” he said.
Punganur, the world’s smallest cow, is just 2.6ft in height. It gives 3-5 litres of milk and costs Rs 15,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Another crowd-puller was the Kapila and Ongole breed. The cow, pure black in colour, costs around Rs 5-6 lakh.
This festival was jointly arranged by Dr BRKR Government Ay-urvedic College and Charaka Dairy targeting to create knowledge in respect to the importance of cows milk and its breeds.
