Why do people hate Ambedkar?

Miscreants demolished the statue of architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B. R Ambedkar in Vanasthalipuram police limits of Hyderabad last night. It may be noted that a few dalit associations erected Ambedkar statue in Hasthinapuram area of Hyderabad.

While the police are suspecting that miscreants have done this, the residents of Hasthinapuram area are expressing grief that the great personality who brought name and fame to the country is being hated by a few communities.

Incidents of miscreants demolishing Ambedkar statues have been coming to light for quite sometime. On the other hand, Telangana Jagruti president is staging hunger protest at Indira Park demanding the government for installing Ambedkar’s statue on the assembly premises.

Even Lok Satta party chief Jaya Prakash Narayana has supported Kavitha and said that not just AP but every state government should set up the Ambedkar statue on their assembly premises.

While Ambedkar is looked upon as God by a few communities in India, why is it that incidents of demolition of his statues still hit the headlines is a million dollar question. One has to understand Ambedkar’s vision and ideologies. He was one of the greatest personalities that India ever produced. Even Ambedkar’s statue was installed on the premises of the prestigious Columbia University in New York. It may be noted that Ambedkar first pursued his post graduation at this university in political science and later came back to the same university to take Ph. D.

While foreign  countries too hail Ambedkar and his visions, its really unfortunate that people are resorting to shameful acts of damaging his statues. (Phani)
