The police resorted to lathicharge on the auto drivers in Vishakapatnam on Tuesday. The police sources said that they had to open the lathicharge only as a last option to maintain the law and order situation. The auto drivers were agitating  at several centres in the city raising their voices against the RTA attacks. The situation turned chaotic due to traffic jams because of the strikes. The police, who plunged into the action, tried to clear the traffic and asked auto drivers to withdraw their agitation.

The auto drivers reportedly picked up arguments with the police and reportedly caused law and order situation. The police then caned the angry mob of auto drivers and took 15 of them into the custody. The situation is now said to be under the control. Auto drivers' menace has not only irking the police but also the common people in the state, said the observers.
