Ragging menace: Girl loses her voice

In a ghory incident, a junior college student in Vizianagaram has lost her voice due to senior's ragging on July 19. The incident, however, came to light late on Sunday when this girl was shifted to a private hospital in Vishakapatnam for better treatment. Sixteen-year-old Sharmili belonged to Gayatri Junior College in Gotlam of Vizianagaram district. She used to stay at a hostel run by the college management.

The incident took place when there was a power cut and her room mates went out for a dinner. Sharmili, in a writter complaint to the police, has said that a few girls (seniors) entered her room in darkness and attacked her. She even said the senior allegedly tried to throttle the girl with a rope and the rope signs were visible on her throat. The shocked Sharmili lost her voice by the time her room mates returned. The police, who have filed a case, said the investigation was underway.
