The abode of Goddess Saraswathi-believed to be the Goddess of Education and Music-at Basara is one of the most busiest pilgrimage centres across India. Many people come from all the corners of the globe to seek blessings of Goddess. There's also a legend that Veda Vyasa, the holy saint and author of Mahabharata epic, travelled from north to south (after Mahabharata war) did a penance here and Goddess Saraswati blessed him by giving him darshan.
Since then, this place has been called as Tapobhoomi (the penance land). Every year a large number of people reach to this place out of which maximum number of students offer their prayers. In fact, many people would get their children's aksharabhyasam done here.
Today being Vasantha Panchami, as many as two lakh devotees sought blessings of the goddess today. In fact, over 4000 children's aksharabhyasam was done today alone thereby setting a new record.
