Supreme Court today rejected the petition of Sudarsh Awasthi a resident of Lucknow to cancel IPL matches in the light of involvement of some players in the spot fixing which is in the probe by Delhi and Mumbai police.
The bench of Justice B.S.Chauhan and Justice Dipak Misra observed that a wrongful deed of some players is a shameful one but IPL matches need not be cancelled because of it. The bench said that retaining the reputation of the 125 year old cricket match is on the shoulders of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Supreme Court blamed the "lackadaisical" way of BCCI to give room for irregularities in the Cricket matches.
The petition was to ban IPL till the probe is complete. The petition also alleged that the irregularities took place since auction of the players started. After rejecting the petition, the court instructed the one man commission probing the spot fixing to complete and submit within 15 days.
