Centenary of First Andhra Conference

Andhra Conference was first celebrated at Bapatla on 26th May 1913.  It was the seed for the demand for a separate Statehood for the Telugu speaking people.  

The centenary of the First Andhra Conference are being conducted from yesterday to commemorate the event as a first step towards made the formation of the State of Andhra a reality.   

The celebrations were conducted in the historic town hall of Bapatla Yesterday.  It will be conducted at the Municipal High School Tomorrow which will be attended by K.Rosaiah, Governor of Tamilnadu as Chief Guest.    

The celebrations committee is headed by Bapatla MLA Gade Venkata Reddy.  Preparations have been going on for the last 20 days for the grand celebrations on 26th.  The 40 feet welcome arch made for the occasion collapsed today today in which incident three persons were wounded badly.  

A special postal cover of Rs.5/- was released yesterday by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Panabaka Lakshmi to mark the occasion.  

The great personalities were remembered and tributes were paid to B.Narasimheswara Sharma who presided over the first Andhra Conference, Bhogaraju Pattbhi Seetharamaiah, Pingali Venkaiah, Ayyadevara Kaleswara Rao, Chilakamarthi Lakshmi Narasimham Panthulu, Konda Venkatappaiah and Mutnuri Krishna Rao.
