Pon Kamaraj (44) was arrested today in the early hours on the charge of abduction and rape of a 17 year minor girl from Andhra.   The arrest was followed by the investigation of the police after the arrests of Asha and Saktivel resident of Thuraiyur.  

Pon Kamaraj is Thuraiyur Panchayat union chairman and union secretary of AIDMK.   

Sativel paid Rs.30000/- to Asha at Salem who sold the minor girl to him.  It happened in the last week of May.  Then he contacted Pon Kamraj through his driver Dhamar.  After that the minor girl was taken in the car that was driven by Dharmar in which Pon Kamra allegedly raped the girl.  On reaching Tiruchi the girl was raped by three more.  She was kept in a rented house later from where the girl managed to escape on 29th May and took help of the police who swung into action to first arrest the persons who were involved in the selling of the girl.  Then as per the confessions made by them, others involved in the gruesome act were also arrested. 

Pon Kamaraj was removed from his prime membership in AIDMK following his arrest.  His car driver was arrested and car was seized.  A total of 7 persons were arrested in the case.
