The world famous Ratha Yatra (Journey on chaiot) is going to take place today at Puri in Odisha.   The three chariots of Nandighosh, Taladhwaja and Darpadalan carrying Jagannadh Swamy, Balabhadra Swamy and Subhadra Devi are going to take a procession today for a nine days trip to their foster mother Gundicha Devi’s temple.

The Sri Kshetram, abode of Swami Jagannadha is expecting a minimum of 10 lakhs visitors made adequate arrangements for them.

Police and other agencies are taking proper care to ensure safety and law and order in the wake of the recent blasts at Bodh Gaya.  Puri Collector Nab Kumar and SP Anup Kumar Sahu expressed their satisfaction for the arrangements made and confidence for the security measures taken for the safety of the visitors.

As the temple visit and darshan of the deities are limited to the Hindus only, the foreign enthusiasts can participate only in the procession up to Gudinchadevi temple.

The deity in Puri Jagannadh Temple one of the Char Dham (four shrines) Hindus like to visit with reverence, is placed on a bejeweled dais called Ratnavedi.   Today Swamy gets down from that platform to grace a darshan to the devotees on his jouney for nine days.

Jagannath means the ruler of the univers- Avatar Sri Krishna.   Balbhadra is his brother also called Balarama and Subhadra is their sister.  It is necessary to have strength as well as safety.  Balabhadra is an epitome of strength and Subhadra  for safety.  Who else can have both of them other than a supreme power called Jagannath?
