Panchayat Elections Hype in the State

Panchayat elections being held in Andhra Pradesh after two years assumed importance all over the State.  Although political interference is not supposed to exist in the local body elections, it became unavoidable as reports received from many places.

The elections are called for the posts of Village Sarpanch and Ward Members.  The Election Commission announced on Sunday that as many as 1,29,005 of contestants are recorded for the post of Village Sarpanch and 5,66,446 contestants for Wards.

Out of the 21,441 Panchayats, the contests for Sarpanch are 6 per panchayat at an average and for that of the Ward Members are about 3 at an average.  If we look at the percentages, fight is more in Karimnagar District at 7.76%.  Lowest is in Srikakulam with 4.98%.

The Panchayat Elections will be held in 3 phases starting from July 23rd.  Second phase on 27th and third will be on 31st July. The results will be announced after all the three phases of elections are completed.
