Farmers Get Furious at Khammam

Farmers who work in the soil in sun, cold and rain in order to produce the very food grains from the earth without which human beings cannot survive.  But instead of getting adequate returns for the service to the mankind they do, farmers are sustaining losses, going hungry, getting deep into debts and committing suicides.

Although market rates are high, farmers are not getting the benefit of it.  There are the middle men who stand between the producer and the consumer to monitor the market rate to fill their own pockets without doing much about it.  Consumers do not stock for entire season and the farmers cannot sell in piecemeal.  Farmers have to sell their produce at one go so that they can redeem their loans.  There comes the role of middlemen, wholesalers and retailers to buy the food grains and sell in small quantities.  They control producers and also consumers.  Situation is not improved in spite of the market yards monitored by the Government officials.

Even the Nature is not affectionate towards them.  Rain falls not at the time they are needed but at odd times to spoil the agricultural produce at different stages.  Because of it, the farmers of the State are very much disappointed and scolding their fate.  With a background of that sort Khammam farmers became furious on the buyers in the Mirch yard when they refused to buy at the reasonable rate to give some margin to the farmers.  Buyers quoted a very small price to buy that is not at all enough to take care of the expenses met by the farmers not talk of the profits.

As the buyers refused to buy, all the produce was in the trucks lying in the Mirch yard on Sunday night.  The farmers vented out their anger on the shops, offices and furniture of the market yard.  Market and Revenue officers tried in vain to pacify them.  They protested entire night on the Khammam bypass road.
