It is exactly 9 years since the deadliest Tsunami created unprecedented havoc in 14 countries in the border of Indian Ocean that includes India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
It happened when the Indian plate was subducted by the Burma plate on December 26, 2004 causing earth quake at a magnitude of 9.1 to 9.3. It happened in the Indian sea that took lives of 2,30,000 people when tides at the sea coasts rose up to 30 meters. It was the third largest earth quake with for a longest duration of 8.3 to 10 minutes.
On the occasion of completion of 9 years, tributes were paid by the relatives of the Tsunami victims to the departed souls at Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Indonesia.
