A New York Police Department [NYPD] officer Manny Encarnacion was arrested at the Delhi Airport on March 11 after three bullets were found in his luggage. Though He is out on bail on the same day but has been barred from leaving the country by the Indian authorities and is due to appear in court on April 17.
The US media and the Parliamentarians are upset with the India over Manny's arrest and termed it as a political revenge in response to the arrest of India’s then-deputy consul general Devyani Khobragade in December 2013 in New York for alleged visa fraud.
The 49 year old Manny visited India with his wife for vacation and is a 10-year NYPD veteran who works in the 25th Precinct in East Harlem. While detaining him, one of the Indian official reportedly said, “You like to strip-search our diplomats.”
