Varanasi, Kyoto sign small city deal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his day one of Japan's tour, completed his first task of signing an agreement between Kyoto and Varanasi. A cultural agreement has been signed between India and Japan which focuses on developing a smart city while maintaining the heritage. The agreement was signed between Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa and India`s Ambassador to Japan Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, posted Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson of ministry of external affairs.

Modi who represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha promised to develop the city like never before and the holy city has been top in his list. Now the focus is on defence, civil nuclear, infrastructure development and rare Earth material production.

Modi will be holding separate meeting with Japan's PM Abe on September 1st to discuss several key issues.
