No Indian City in World Growth Chart

In a major embarrassment, no Indian city has been named in the top 10 of the Brookings Institution's 2014 Global Metro Monitor Map which estimates and compares growth patterns in the world's 300 largest metro economies. The National capital, Delhi has been ranked at 18th position while rest of major Indian cities did not find a place in the top 30.  Kolkata stood at 32nd position, Mumbai  at 52nd, Chennai at 57th, Hyderabad at 76th and the last Indian city in top 100 is Bengaluru which stood at 87.

China dominated the list as 11 cities topped the first 20 and four cities were placed in top 10. In a surprise, four cities of Turkey found place for themselves in top 10 while Macau ranked first in the list. As per the annualized growth rate of real GDP per capita and annualized growth rate of employment, the cities are being ranked.

However, the report said, Indian cities showed better result and improved their ranking from the period 2009 to 2014. This report also stated that the growth is rapid in developing countries especially in Asia region. Hopefully, we will see at least couple of Indian cities in the next listings.
