The incidents like these are not new to the city. In the past, several activists such as the Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sena, Hindu Jagarana Vedika and the Islamist group, Popular Front of India, have been reported to be involved in the similar activists in Mangalore, Udupi, Honnavar, Bhatkal and Karwar over the past decade.
A few of the critics say that, it is the BJP government who encouraged the Hindutva groups to commit such crimes, when it was in power in Karnataka state, during 2008 to 2013. On the other side, the statistics prove that, there is no such change in attacks, even after the Congress party formed the government.
