Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are said to be ‘Telugu states’. The name itself implies that many Telugu speaking people reside in these states. But to the shock, the latest figures are proving that, more than Hindus, the Muslim population is increasing in the states day by day.
Comparing the statistics from 2001 to 2011, Muslims constituted 12.43 per cent of the population in Telangana in 2001 to 12.68 per cent in 2011 in the state. On the other side, the Hindus population, which is 85.94 per cent in 2001, came down to 85.09 per cent in Telangana.
Coming to Andhra Pradesh, the figures are high, compared to Telangana state. In 2001, the Muslim population is 6.92 per cent in AP, whereas in 2011, the stats showed 8.53 per cent. At the same time, the Hindus population, which is 91.11 per cent in 2001, came down to 90.86 per cent in 2011.

Along with Muslims, even Christian population is also increasing in the Telugu states. Coming to those stats, in Telangana, the Christians accounted to 1.19 per cent in 2001, but in 2011, the figure is 1.27. On the contrary, the Christian population is decreased to 1.19 per cent in 2011 from 1.76 per cent in 2011.
Overall growth rate of Muslims and Hindus
The growth rate of Muslims is 34.5 per cent in Andhra Pradesh and 15.8 in Telangana state. In the same period, the Hindu population grew at 8.9 per cent in Andhra Pradesh and 12.45 per cent in Telangana state.
However, not just limiting to one or two religions, hope both the Telugu states should be able to give shelter to a number of religions, so that a matter of equality prevails among the human beings and thus avoid unnecessary inequality conflicts.
