Bharath Bandh - Impact on public

All the trade unions called for a nation wide bandh today. But some sensitive services are  showing a serious impact on the common public.

Majorly 10 trade unions are performing the bandh. These 10 unions combined the membership of 15 crore workers in both public and private sector, which includes banks and insurance companies, several outfits representing informal sector workers etc, who announced their support to the bandh.

All the services above has an every chance to show huge impact on the common people. On the contrary, reacting about this, Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said, “I don’t think essential services will be affected by the strike. I feel that the impact will not be much. I appeal them to call off strike in the interest of workers and nation.”

On the other side, the union leaders opined that, “the strike might show huge impact on the essential services like banking, transport and supply of power, gas and oil.

But, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) said, “The power, oil and gas supplies will not be affected as a large number of public sector workers in these areas, would not participate in the industrial strike.

12 central trade unions had given the strike call over a 12-points charter of demands, including the withdrawal of the proposed changes in the labour laws and also stopping the disinvestment and privatization of PSUs.

After the talks with the ministers were failed, 10 central unions have decided to strike. But the BMS argued that, the government should be given enough time to fulfill the demands. Inspite of the strike today, the talks between the government and the trade unions go on.

If they are settled, the strike might be called off by the end of the day, otherwise, there is an every chance to prolong for tomorrow too.
