At least six people lost their lives, including three police officials, in the series of blasts in Jakarta, Indonesia, this morning.
Out of the six blasts, the first one took place at Star Bucks cafe in Jalan Thamrin across Sarinah Plaza and the second one, outside a police kiosk, located near the Sarinah mall.
There are speculations on the third blast saying that, it was due to grenade. But a few others opine that, it was a suicide bomber. There are no confirmations, as of yet.
Reportedly, along with the blast near Sarinah mall, even there are three other blasts, that took place at Cikni, Silpi and Kuningan neighborhoods, near the Turkish and Pakistani embassies.
One of the police spokesmen, Anton Charliyan said, “We have previously received a threat from Islamic state that Indonesia will be the spotlight.” He even opined that, police are not aware of who was responsible.
Among the dead victims, the first one was a police official. It was unclear, if he died due to the explosion or the gun-battle that ensued. “Up to six suspected terrorists involved. Four people have been killed, including one policeman,” Charliyan said.
As per the local channel sources, the attackers threw grenades at the police kiosk and then began firing indiscriminately.
One of the eye-witness tweeted that, the police had prior information about an attack. Police officials have been asking those occupying buildings in the vicinity to stay away from windows.
The location is among the busiest streets of Jakarta with commercial establishments in the locality, as well as the UN office. Over the last week, police officials have made several arrests.
