KPHB Spools under Water Crisis

The H M W S S Board officials seem to be ignorant to the suffering of the kukatpally citizens.

In spite of repeated complaints by the residents of Kukatpally that they are facing an acute shortage of drinking water, the HMWSSB officials do not bother to even verify if the complaints are correct.

Residents complain that not only is the water that drips from their taps less, it is also unfit for drinking since it is muddy and has a distinct odour.

Talking to INN, one resident says, "Water Board authorities do not seem to be serious towards solving our drinking water problems." He added that if the apathy of the HMWSSB officials continued, very soon the residents might be forced to gherao the officials.

Mohsin Ali, a resident of the area, says that though the recent rains have filled the water reservoirs, leading people to think that their days of scant water supplies might be a thing of the past, the situation is the same as it was during peak summer, with taps dripping for only 20-25 minutes on alternate days.

Coupled with the erratic timings and the low pressure, life has become difficult for the residents. A member of any family living in Kukatpally area has to be on the alert for the water to be released, and must start to collect it the moment the taps start dripping with the precious liquid.

The residents have no other option than to arrange for private water tankers at an exorbitant price. And the suppliers, who know that the residents of Kukatpally have no other option but to rely on them, make them wait for hours before a tanker is grudgingly despatched to any house in the area.
