From February, applicants who want permanent account numbers (PAN) will have to produce original documents related to identification, address and date of birth. According to a statement issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) anyone applying for allotment of PAN card will now have to submit a proof of identity, in addition to address proof and date of birth.
Documents like voter ID card, driving licence can be used as identity proof and with failure of any of these document, PAN won't be issued to any. However the Tax experts are not happy with government over this move. They said it would be difficult for people to get a PAN card now and moreover people won't like to share their original documents. This new rule will come in effective from February 3rd.
