Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch digital locker facility on July 1st, that will help citizens to digitally store their important documents like PAN card, passport, mark sheets and degree certificates.
Digital Locker will provide secure access to Government issued documents. It uses authenticity services provided by Aadhaar," an official release said. Digital Locker provides a dedicated personal storage space in the cloud to citizens and is linked to citizen's Aadhaar number.
“Digital Locker will reduce the administrative overhead of government departments and agencies created due to paperwork. It will also make it easy for the residents to receive services by saving time and effort as their documents will now be available anytime, anywhere and can be shared electronically," it said. It is an initiative under Digital India program.
It is aimed at eliminating the use of physical documents and it enables the sharing of verified electronic documents across the government agencies.
To sign-up for the Digital Locker, one needs their Aadhaar number and a Mobile number that is linked to that Aadhaar Number, it added.
Digital locker will help the people to submit their documents to the government authorities whenever required in an electronic format. This will eliminate the carrying of the physical documents. The electronic documents do not need the attestation by officials. This will also eliminate the fraud and forgery of documents. Even if the documents in the government offices are misplaced or destroye, these digital documents will help out.
