Chidambaram Gets Bail in CBI Case:- Former Union Minister P Chidambaram is facing allegations of money laundering during the time he worked as the Central Minister. The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail for Chidambaram in the INX Media case that was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). However, he will continue to be in jail till October 24th as he was granted custody for the Enforcement Directorate. The ED is investigating about the money laundering done by Chidambaram in the same case. Chidambaram was granted bail after 61 days of his arrest by CBI.
The Supreme Court asked Chidambaram to deposit his passport with the Special CBI Court and furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties. The bench argued that Chidambaram should be kept in jail as he could influence the 25 witnesses in the case. Chidambaram's lawyer Kapil Sibal said that they would seek bail in ED case too when the right time comes. The case against Chidambaram relates to alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) allowing INX Media to receive foreign direct investment in excess of the approved amount.
