Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade has been granted full diplomatic immunity and was asked to leave US said the External Affairs Ministry in a statement. However, Devyani has been indicted on two criminal charges, fraudulently obtaining a work visa for her New York housekeeper.
The U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara told to the court that charges on Devyani' case will be in pending until she can be brought to court to face them, either through a waiver of immunity or her return to the U.S. without immunity status.
Devyani Lawyer Daniel Arshack too has confirmed that she has been given full diplomatic immunity and is likely to land in India on Friday evening or early hours of Saturday. Although Devyani is on her way to India, her family stays in US as she is married to New York born Indian who has US citizenship. So she might be go anytime keeping her family status in mind.
