Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda on this budget presentation and termed it as "growth engine" while the Congress party has slammed the budget for not being 'pro-poor'. Modi said the budget promote transparency and integrity.
Commenting on the budget, Modi said, this budget is the growth engine of development of India. “This budget intends to make the Railways modern with the use of technology by giving more facilities to the Indians. It also shows where we want to take railways and where we want to take India through the railways,” said Modi.
Switching the sides, the Congress party has slammed minister Sadananda Gowda and also staged a protest at his residence in Delhi. During the protest, a Congress leader stomped on Gowda's nameplate and shouted slogans against the Rail Minister. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said it is an uninspiring, not pro-poor budget. States like Kerala and West Bengal have been ignored.
Former minister Veerappa Moily too criticised the budget and opined that it lacked national vision.
