With the increase in the technology, the advancement in the medical diagnosis has taken place. A new machine has been set up at Bengaluru Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital to diagnose the tuberculosis associated with TB within 90 minutes.
Every year March 24 is celebrated as World Tuberculosis day. On occasion of this the machine has been set up at the Bengaluru Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital. Medical Superintendent S.I.S. Khadri said, “With the diagnosis test that existed earlier, patients had to wait for long to get the results. It was also risky considering the possibility of the infected being in contact with a healthy person. Since HIV patients’ immunity is low, with the new test, they can be put on treatment immediately.”
He also announced that the test which would cost Rs 1500 in private hospitals would be done at free of cost in Bowring for the patients who are referred from the ART centre. The machine was funded by the Centre and costs Rs 16 lakhs. Dr P K Devadas, Dean, BMCRI, said that the machine is made available in 30 places across the country in order to screen TB patients immediately.
