Guru Purnima 2019 Date in India:- Guru Purnima is a festival that is followed by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists across India. It is observed as the day to honor spiritual and academic teachers, leaders to express gratitude for their efforts. It is observed on the full moon day of Ashadam month of Shakha Samavat. The date will change as per the Hindu calendar and this year it falls on July 16th.
This day is marked for paying respects for the teachers who trained and guided several skilled professionals. The word Guru is derived from Sanskrit and means 'the remover of darkness'. Buddhists celebrate Guru Purnima in the remembrance of Lord Buddha who showed the light to the world. Buddha went from Bodhgaya to Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh where he gave the sermon on the full moon day.
Hindus celebrate Guru Purnima as the birth anniversary of Veda Vyas who wrote Mahabharata along with other Vedas and Puranas. People also observe the Satya Narayan Vrat on the full moon day and worship Lord Vishnu.
