As Google celebrates, every worthy day, through doodles, today being the 120th anniversary of the 1896 Summer Olympics, it created a special doodle.
 
In the olden times, these games were officially called “Games of the I Olympiad” and was opened by King George I of Greece in Athens at the Panathinaiko stadium. Since then, the games have become popular and are held every four years, with two war time exceptions in 1940 and 1944. Till the Summer 2004 Olympics, the games did not return to Greece.

Google doodler, Olivia Huynh has four variations and can all be seen by refreshing the Google homepage. Greek champion athlete Spyridon “Spyro” Louis won the marathon, which is the main event.

Weightlifting event was the second doodle, which was a tie between Scotland’s Launceston Elliot and Denmark’s Viggo Jensen. Though both contenders lifted equal weight, Jensen was declared the winner, for doing it in style.
 


Since then, the rules for the event have been changed. Switzerland’s Louis Zutter on the pommel horse will be spotted in the third doodle.



The fourth one shows American Robert Garrett, who won the gold medal for shot put as well as discus throw. Greek athletes were expected to win both events.  

Rio de Janeiro will host the Summer Olympics, this year. More than 10,500 athelets will compete for 306 medals in 28 sports.
