No Bollywood in Nepal

Maoists in Nepal have taken an anti-India stand and the same has gone a step further as they have forced the nation to stop playing Hindi movies from being screened in Nepal.

"Fifty cinema halls, which were showing Hindi films, stopped screening Indian movies from Monday," said Raj Kumar Rai, Chairman of Nepal Film Producers Association he said whilst mentioning that the halls have expressed solidarity with the Maoist outfit.

This is a big loss to the entertainment needs of over one lakh people in Nepal while economically it could amount to millions for the nation.

"Although we are not against Hindi cinema, we have agreed to halt the screening of Hindi movies for the next 10 days so as to promote Nepalese movies," he said. He added that Nepalese movies have lost their charm in the nation with the influence of the foreign movies, Hindi and many others. Hence all of them would be stopped to promote the movies of the nation.

"We want the government to regularize the screening of foreign films so as to encourage the indigenous films."

The CPN-Maoist leader Mohan Vaidya had issued a warning at the end of last month, blaming Hindi films for spreading "hatred against Nepal". It has also threatened that the Indian Vehicles from entering the nation.

However, the party had allowed the movement of Indian vehicles carrying essentials like cooking gas, diesel and kerosene.
