Most of the Mahesh Bhatt films are supposed to be inspired from the Hollywood, ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ is not an exception for this trend. It reminds ‘Maid in Manhattan’ and Vidya Balan’s own ‘Kahani’..
Bhatt failed in writing a good character to Vidya. The talented lady does not get an opportunity to show it in the film. Most of the scenes are sympathized and audience might not be affording to spend on the film just for the tears.
Emraan Hashmi, as Vidya’s Knight in shining armour, is equally detached. He’s got soulful tunes to lip-sync, but nothing more to contribute. “Can I take a picture?” was his most repeated and cheered dialogue. He’s is accompanied by a friend, who is on flight-check all the time. Rajkummar Rao is reduced to wear a weird wig and scream and shout. Even his character is a utterly wasted.
The 150-minute story shifts from being modern, to being regressive and then to being pointless. Finally ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ can be avoided.
