The agitation in Tamil Nadu could pose a problem for Viswaroopam across the country, as well. The decision of the filmmaker cum actor Kamal Haasan of the films release on DTH on January 10, one day ahead of the actual release on big screens, has irked the theatre owners.
They now plan to boycott all Kamal films, even older ones and the future ones, if he is going ahead with his DTH plans. However the versatile actor has already gone ahead with advertising on two DTH channels. The charges for the DTH viewing is Rs 1000 for Tamil and Rs 500 for the Hindi version. He said that this was a move to avoid piracy while luring the TV viewer back to the theatre for technical satisfaction.
On the other hand, Theatre Owners association stiffly resisted the move citing that it would be a big loss to them.
Viswaroopam is the biggest budget South film made at an whopping cost of Rs 150 crores. This time Kamal is flanked by two glamorous dolls, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah. It is speculated that the film had been sold out to DTH providers for Rs 50 crores. (Wishesh AarKay)
