The value of the total wealth retrieved from the secret chambers of the cellar A of the 18th century-built Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram is estimated at a whopping Rs.50, 000 Cr by the experts’ team deputed by the Supreme Court.

 

With the reports spreading that more such treasure is lying in the other secret chambers of the temple, the Kerala government has now posted special security guards to protect the temple.

 

The gold wealth of the temple now surpasses the gold wealth of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy (Lord Balaji) of the seven hills of Tirumala which is estimated as Rs.32, 000 Cr.

 

The temple was built by the 18th century ruler King Martanda Varma and the inventory included various types of royal gold jewellery, Royal crowns, bridal jewellery, gold coins belonging to the East India Company era, the era of Napoleon Bonaparte and those gold coins minted in Travancore.

 

The gold treasure, left by the then rulers for the benefit of the temple, has stunned the judge-observers and experts sent by the Supreme Court.

 

While all this wealth was retrieved from secret chambers of the cellar A, one more secret chamber is yet to be opened. The experts are sending a report to the Supreme Court on the wealth retrieved from the temple chambers.
