The opening of the cellar chambers of the famed 18th century’s Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Tiruvananthapuram in Kerala have revealed a treasure of gold, diamonds, antiques and precious stones worth Rs.700 Cr, according to the officials.
Out of the 6 chambers of temple, officials opened three chambers in the presence of two former judges of the Kerala High Court on the orders of the Supreme Court and found magnificent gold jewelry and gold vessels, silver and brass platters and a stone-studded crown, besides individual precious stones.
The wealth, for which the inventory has been taken with the help of the experts and government officials, is estimated worth Rs. 700 Cr. The chambers were opened on the instructions of the Supreme Court which responded to a PIL filed by a devotee.
Meanwhile, another three chambers are yet to be opened and officials said a date would be fixed for the purpose.
The famed temple was built in the 18th century by the then ruler King Marthanda Varma.
