Hinjewadi rape accused smile, as victim wails

HinjewadiRapeEven as it took more than a year to provide justice to a 25-year-old married woman, who was gang-raped on 1 April 2010 in Hinjewadi. Additional sessions judge W K Sangale on Wednesday held Subhash Bhosale (30), Ganesh Kamble (26) and Ranjit Gade (25) guilty. The quantum of their punishment will be pronounced by the court on Friday.

Addressing the three accused in a packed courtroom, the judge declared that the three have been found guilty of conspiracy of gangrape of the complainant under the pretext of dropping her to her destination. The case was heard in the fast-track court as per orders of State Home Minister R R Patil. Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam argued for maximum punishment to the accused narrating various reasons. Nikam also narrated how Bhosale had threatened the complainant that they will sell her in a brothel and force her to become a prostitute.

The rape convicts did not seem to show any sign of remorse as they walked out of court yesterday. The convicts, who will be awarded their jail term tomorrow, waved out and brandished victory signs to their family members waiting in the court premises. On the other hand the victim’s family walked out with heavy hearts awaiting tomorrow’s pronouncement.

Because the public transport system in Hinjewadi, which is considered as IT hub, is notoriously poor, people often tend to hitchhike. However, most companies who are based here have formally warned their employees not to accept lifts.
