CBI to probe Regency riots

The Puducherry assembly on Monday saw chaotic scenes as the discussion on Regency riots came up. Both parties had heated arguments on the issue. The Regency Ceramics violent incidents in Yanam had included the murder of a key personality of the management on January 27, this year. The Chief Minister Rangaswamy had ordered a CBI probe on the incidents as a result.

It may be noted the police registered five different cases in connection with the violent incidents at Yanam that broke out on January 27. A case has been registered against five known and 20 unknown persons for the rioting that lead to the death of Regency Ceramics President (Operations) KC Chandrasekhar. But not much headway had taken shape, in the past two months, on the issue.

Kondamuri Srihari Kusuma Kumar, closely associated with AIADMK Yanam secretary Maghappu Subba Rao, Manja Saikumar, secretary of Yanam unit of AIADMK, Nalla Vennkanah (Yanam Merchants Association), Wilson alias Satyanarayana, Kondamuri Chinni alias Nagendra  of Regency Ceramics Officers, and workers association have been named as accused in the FIR registered under IPC sections 147,148,452,302 ,307,436,427,324 (read with IPC 149)  charging them of murder, attempt to murder, trespassing into the premises with deadly weapons  and assaulting M Murthy, PRO of Regency Ceramics.
