The West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee lost her patience at a live show by a national news channel when a group of students at the interactive session questioned her on the arrest of Jadavpur University professor and increased crime rate against women. Mamata said the professor forwarded the cartoon to 60 persons without their consent. She also said he belonged to CPM cadre.
Mamata Banerjee has allegedly questioned a woman student-who asked a question-whether she was a maoist. She slammed the students among the audience stating that CPM and Maoists were posing these questions. The chief minister has also said the audience were putting up CPM and Maoist questions.
All in all, Mamata Banerjee stirred up a new controversy by tagging students as Maoists only because they questioned on something that they felt wrong. Will it not be a violation of the fundamental right—right to freedom of speech and expression when people are forced not to express their views due to the fear that they would be labeled as Maoists?
