Kingfisher Airlines license canceled by DGCA

The DGCA has announced that the license of Kingfisher Airlines owned by the liquor baron, Vijay Mallya was cancelled today. The decision was taken the time window given for the airlines owner to respond to the show-cause notice issued on October 5. The DGCA then gave a 15-days window for replying to the notice which expires today.

In the show-cause notice it has questioned Mallya why the license should not be canceled or suspended  after the airlines had stopped adhering to its schedule while often canceling flights at its whims and fancies in the last 10 months repeatedly.

It is also to be noted that the airlines had not been paying the employees since the last 6-7 months. The irked employees had gone on strike several times which led to the cancellation of several flights earlier. Only 10 odd flights were continuing their services in the fleet of 60 flights under the Kingfisher tag.

The official sources made it clear that Kingfisher could not resume operations till the DGCA gave the final clearance.
Kingfisher was issued an airline licence on August 26, 2003. It was actually issued to Air Deccan which was bought over by Kingfisher. It is valid till December 31 this year.
