The think tank Pew Research Washington shows results of its survey that Narendra Modi has more following than Rahul Gandhi for the coming general elections.
After interviewing 2464 voters in a week, the survey shows 60% of them are in favor of Modi where as only 20% favored Rahul Gandhi. Modi’s following in rural areas has gone up to 64%. Modi is favored by 74% of the people in the states of UP, MP, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi. The percentage interestingly has gone down to 54% in his home state Gujarat and also in Maharashtra.
The Pew Research says, "With the Indian parliamentary elections just weeks away, the Indian public, by a margin of more than three-to-one, would prefer the Hindu-nationalist opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to lead the next Indian government rather than the Indian National Congress (INC), which heads the current left-of-centre governing coalition".
60% of the people expressed their belief that BJP will effectively fight with corruption and create job opportunities. Only 17% believed it in the case of Congress party.
Incidentally the survey report of US based Pew Research came just after a day of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s warning to the media writing against Congress party in the guise of survey reports.
