India is land of beliefs and sentiments, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari parties may change, flags may be different, culture, religion, castes and languages vary. However one strong feeling that bonds us together and divides us at times, is sentiments and beliefs. This is the sole substance of unity in diversity.
Keep walking on the roads, a vermillion faced stone would appear in one corner, a few yards away there is a photo of another faith and a few metres away you find another small place of a different community. The same person has a look of reverence at all the three, irrespective of faiths. That is India... Well many have thrived on our beliefs and gambled on our sentiments from politicians to local Babas...yet we continue with pride, inherited form ancestors.
Recently a report from Khammam district stated that a daily wage labourer Veeramma is possessed by a Goddess and numerous are gathering at her residence to have a glimpse of her. Many believe that she has divine powers and can cure them of uncured diseases and solve their impending problems. No child or ill, then seek the blessings of the Lady Baba which also holds good to many mental tensions too. The belief is spreading like wild fire across these parts of Telangana.
Lady Baba charges the devotee Rs 100 for consultation, on a condition that all pooja articles must be purchased from her own outlet. At the time of consultation, once inside the possessed Baba finds out the issue that is troubling her devotees even before they narrate. That is really great mark her devotees, then she suggests remedy to get rid of them. The remedies are mostly special poojas. Happy with the consultations, devotees leave a fat sum as offerings to the goddess.
Critics claim that the Lady Baba is making a lucrative living by banking on the sentiments and beliefs of the localites. On the other hand devotees agree to her super powers in solving their issues and curing their diseases. Is it supernatural or superficial powers possesed by the lady Baba? Only time will reveal the truth. (Wishesh-AarKay)
