DIY Wishesh: DIY deodorants are safer and cheaper

I have recently read that the deodorants that are being sold to us in nice, rich packaging in the spray canisters are dangerous to our health and a few ingredients might even be carcinogenic like aluminum. That is a huge risk to take and a big hassle when it comes to choosing a deo when you have to painfully go through the ingredients. Whether the fact is established or not, there is one more irritating factor of these antiperspirants in the market, ugly armpit stains. These stubborn stains take a lot to be washed away and I'm not willing to do it frequently. Hence, I devised my own deo stick which can be rolled on the skin easily. Better yet, I can have a unique fragrance of my choice, manly as I want it to be.

Making a deo stick at home is cheap, doesn't take very long and is very rewarding too. People who don't mind rubbing their fingers on their armpits can get away with the last extra bit of work too.

So let's get started.

What you need:

Corn Starch – ½ cup

Coconut Oil – ½ cup

Beeswax – One and half Tbsp

Baking Soda – ½ cup

Essential Oils – 10 drops each of you choice of essential oils

Essential oil is optional unless you want to have a fragrance. The deo will work just as fine without it but it won't have a remarkable and distinct smell to it. Best essential oils would be from Lavender, Lemon, Frankinsence, musk, clove, vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli, oakmoss, bay, basil, cypress, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon peel, cinnamon stick, and the list can go on and on.

BTW, folks have you checked out our DIY articles over the past month?

Procedure:

In a small saucepan, add the coconut oil and beeswax (any form but pellets allow for better measuring). Let the wax melt slowly on the lowest flame and once it melts completely, take it off the flame.

Now add Baking soda and corn starch to it.

Mix thoroughly until the consistency is even, creamy smooth.

This is when you drop the blend of essential oils you prefer to use. For distinct and notable highs of a fragrance in the scents, use more drops of the preferred essential oil and cut down on another contrasting smell.

You job is done. Allow it to cool completely and solidify.

If you prefer to have it as a stick, pour the warm and creamy deo into a previously used container before allowing to settle into a solid. Make sure that you wash it and dry it properly before you add your product.

Make more blends, find the best proportions of essential oils that work out for you. Spice them up by adding cloves, cardamom or cinnamon to the melting wax and filtering them out before you make the final product. Tell us about your favorite fragrances in the comments section.
