After watching the appalling footage from Uttarkhand, a nation is plunged into gloom. Everyone hopes for the nightmare to end. But, a better attitude would be to plan the inevitable. It is known that heavy rainfall and floods would continue in the state. Supporting this prediction is the latest update from UN.
According to an analysis by the UN World Meteorological Organization, the past decade had been the warmest so far since measurements began in 1850. It was marked with temperature and climate extremities not experienced before. Not only is the world becoming hotter, it is also getting freakier.
Temperature records were constantly broken with accelerating global warming. The speed at which the sea levels are rising is also higher during the decade. As per data, global average atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations increased 39% to 389 parts per million in 2010, since the advent of the industrial era in 1750. Nitrous oxide increased to 323.2 parts per billion while methane boosted to1,808.0 ppb.
This data warns of rising greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. They trap heat and are being absorbed into the oceans as well. Overall, WMO says that droughts kill the most people across the world, followed by floods.
