That's a first, Indian bride marries American bride

If a picture speaks a thousand words, then we are speechless. Seema and Shannon made history as the first Indo-American lesbian couple to tie the knot. Their sexual orientation may set them a tad apart from the regular heterosexual couples, but the essence of the union was the same. The brides were dressed in both the Indian and American customs, taking part in the very Indian marriage rituals.

In an age when cross country marriages are still hesitantly accepted, this Indian bride and her American bride opened our eyes to an entirely different kind of marriage. At least three things stand out in this ground breaking wedding. The couple are homosexuals and they belong to different cultures. Most importantly, they married for love.

Held in Los Angeles, the grand wedding was attended by happy families of both brides and many of their excited friends. All those who witnessed the couple had only one thing on their minds, “they look happy together.” Friend and wedding photographer Steph Grant expressed that feels honored to be chosen as the official photographer.

“I have been anticipating this wedding for years now! Shannon and Seema are special to me. I was greeted by a house full of friends, family and a lot of laughter,” Grant said, speaking about the first Indo-American lesbian marriage, held on 9 July 2013. He shared on his Facebook page that there was so much love there that friends and family has happy tears in their eyes.
