Two days after being shot at and stabbed by rivals, the condition of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi is critical but stable, doctors said today.
The doctors of the Care Hospital said in a medical bulletin that the legislator continues to be on ventilator. “Dialysis is also continuing,” they said.
Akbaruddin Owaisi was first admitted to the Owaisi hospital in the old city after he was shot at and attacked with swords by the rivals. Later on he was shifted to the Care hospital.
“His pulse rate, blood pressure and the functioning of other vital organs are near normal,” said the doctors who are treating him. He was conducted a second operation on Sunday for his abdominal injuries.
Earlier doctors removed three bullets from his body but he also suffered injuries to his left kidney, urinary bladder, upper portion of the large intestine and left hand. For the third day in a row, a large number of MIM workers and supporters gathered outside the Care hospital in Banjara Hills.
Attack due to old rivalries
Police said the clash between the legislator and his rivals followed a threat given by Akbaruddin to the brother of Mohammad Pahelwan, a local leader of the Barkas area of the old city when he went to inspect a Darga and announced the construction of compound wall to it.
When Akbar along with supporters inspected the Darga and announced construction of the compound wall, Pahelwan’s brother, whose house is located adjoining the Darga, objected to it and started arguing with Akbaruddin.
Then Akbaruddin threatened him that he would see to ensure to dismantle his house resulting in a fiery clash between the two groups.
When Akbaruddin was attacked by the sons of Pahelwan’s brother, security guard of another MIM legislator, Ahmed Balala who accompanied Akbaruddin, opened fire killing one of the sons.
With in thirty minutes, Pahealwan and his men came in large numbers and opened fire on Akbaruddin and his supporters severely injuring him. They also attacked them with swords.
Sources said that Akbaruddin has been putting pressure on Pahelwan trough police to vacate the Government lands he had grabbed long ago. He also did not like Pahelwan and his men supporting the MBT, a rival party of the MIM in the old city.
Police have arrested four persons for the incident and filed cases against them. Some more accused are absconding.
