By-polling ends peacefully

By-polling ends peacefullyThe by-polls to the Pulivendula assembly seat and Kadapa Lok Sabha seat were held on Sunday peacefully except for some minor incidents, according to the chief electoral officer Bhanvarlal.

Addressing media persons in Hyderabad Sunday evening, Bhanvarlal said that Pulivendula recorded 81 per cent poll while it was 69.50 per cent in Kadapa Lok Sabha. There may be slight variation in these calculations after assessing all the details pouring in from various assembly constituencies in the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency.

Bhanvarlal said that it had recommenced for re polling in one poling station and the Central Election commission would take a decision on this recommendation. He said he had received a complaint from officials that all votes were being cast for the Hand symbol of the congress after the first 150 votes were polled at polling station number 108 in Bellammandi in the district. Bhanvarlal said he had recommenced for re polling in that polling booth.

The bypolls were necessitated following resignations of the Kadapa MP, Mr YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his mother and Pulivendula MLA, Ms YS Vijayalakshmi after they quit the congress party.

In a stray incident during the polling, the police had to fire in the air at Siddagaripalli Village in the Pulivendula Assembly segment to disperse the clashing supporters of Congress and YSR Congress Party, according to DGP, Mr K. Aravinda Rao.

Money influence

There were allegations that all parties are involved in the distribution of money to the voters to get votes in the by polls but most newspapers reported that YSR congress party leader YS Jaganmohan reddy maintained an upper hand in the distribution of money and polling trends have almost indicated the victory of Jagan and his mother.
